Sam and Killey 2010
When I was in college, I would see people getting engaged so quickly after meeting each other. I kept telling myself that they were crazy. I just knew that when I met my future husband, I would insist on dating for at least a year. How else would we get to know each other?
When Sam and I met, all of that changed. I finally understood what people were talking about when they said that "they knew" right away.
We met on one of the coldest nights in June, in Arizona. There was a big singles ward mix and mingle at a local pool in Mesa, and it was so chilly that barely anyone was in the pool. Sam and I were both in the pool and got to talking. When it came time for the party to end, he finally asked for my number and then said, "I know that you are taller than me, but if that doesn't bother you, maybe you would like to go out sometime." It was extremely adorable and I definitely wanted to see him again. We ended up going out for ice cream that night.
The next few days we spent hours talking on the phone until late into the night and finally went on a picnic. I knew that I had met the guy that I was going to marry. I just wasn't sure if he knew. We had only been dating for a week when he asked me to marry him. I had already received an answer to my prayers that he was the guy that I was supposed to marry, so it was very easy to say yes. We were married 5 months later in the Columbia River Temple.
